Republican National Convention officials have turned out the lights at the Quicken Loans Center in Cleveland. Yet, from rogue delegates to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s well televised non-endorsement of Republican nominee Donald Trump, according to one reporter, the convention appears to have failed to find the unity message it was hoping to achieve.

“A lot of division they hoped were behind them were on display this week and one of those was Ted Cruz. (Cruz) speaking at the convention was supposed to be a symbol of healing, coming together after a rough and tumble primary season and instead it left exactly the opposite impression.”

Rebecca Sinderbrand covered the Cleveland Republican convention for the Washington Post last week. Despite the missteps, Sinderbrand says the convention was able to accomplish some harmony.

“It’s been successful in the sense you do have the feeling that the establishment has coalesced around Trump.”

The political world shifts to Philadelphia next week for the start of the Democratic National Convention. Party officials will be looking to prove that the Democrats can come together after a long stand-off between presumed nominee Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Sinderbrand says the Democrats have the advantage.

“One of the biggest differences is that Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s chief rival, unlike Ted Cruz has endorsed Clinton. Unlike in the Republican party where you have the top primary challenger is still holding back, not offering support, with Bernie Sanders it was a long slow road but he got there and he says he supports Clinton for president and he’ll be speaking at the convention as well and you can be sure Clinton will want to see a copy well before two hours earlier.”
