Harvard University is under fire for allegedly holding Asian applicants to higher standards than students of other races, according to a discrimination lawsuit filed by the Students for Fair Admissions. The lawsuit argues that if Harvard went by different standards, more Asian students would merit more slots over white students. But critics worry about what the elimination of affirmative action could mean for black and Latino applicants. Harvard Law alumna and professor Jeannie Suk Gersen says it doesn’t have to be a question of either or. Gersen breaks down the case and explains why she hopes the lawsuit will begin a conversation about the consequences of affirmative action.
