The Trump administration’s immigration policy is not only cracking down on illegal immigration but restricting legal immigration as well. Asylum seekers will now have a harder time applying for sanctuary status, the government is severely limiting the number of refugees coming into the country, lawmakers are looking to cut the number of visas available. These kinds of restrictions aren’t new, according to Georgetown professor Katherine Benton-Cohen, author of Inventing the Immigration Problem. She joins Soledad O’Brien to discuss the history of immigration in America.
