This week New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill creating free tuition for students whose families make no more than $125,000 a year. This will apply to 2-year and 4-year public college in New York. The catch? You must be a New York resident, keep up good grades, attend full time and participants must remain in New York for the same number of years they used the scholarship. While some are praising the legislation, including former presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders, critics say it limits job opportunities for some and it could be difficult for non-traditional students. The scholarship is only for tuition and cannot be applied to housing, books or other fees which add up to three times the cost of tuition.
