After President Trump’s first travel ban was signed, hundreds of people were detained at airports. Some were denied access to their own attorneys or basic needs such as food, water and restrooms. Now with the second travel ban scheduled to go into effect on March 16, new travelers could face the same struggles. It can also happen at any of the immigration facilities around the country, holding approximately 37,000 immigrants at any time. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) have introduced companion bills to ensure that what they call violations of human rights do not continue. Jayapal joins Soledad O’Brien to discuss the difference between the imagined conditions and the real conditions of detention centers in the United States.
