Premiums for Obamacare are up an average of 37% this enrollment season. Those hikes are due in part to the instability caused by Pres. Trump’s declaration that he would stop funding the cost sharing reduction payments, which help low income Americans pay health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs. Yet, there is a fix in the Senate – a bipartisan bill by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) to fund those payments while creating more flexibility for the states. They say they have the votes. Soledad O’Brien meets with bill co-sponsor Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) to discuss why the bill hasn’t been brought to the floor, what it will take to get there and what comes next.
