Richmond, Virginia, once the capital of the Confederate South, is still struggling to reconcile with its past. A commission, appointed by the city to solve the confederate monument controversy, is recommending the removal of the Jefferson Davis monument while adding context to the other statues. One of the co-chairs of the commission is Christy Coleman. She’s the CEO of the American Civil War museum in Richmond and says although she is African-American, she understands why the statues should remain.
