According to a recent study, approximately 45 million Americans did not fulfill their prescriptions due the cost of medication. Drug manufacturers have received a barrage of bad publicity in recent years for the skyrocketing costs of medication such as insulin or EpiPen. yet there are no mechanisms in U.S. law to place limits on what they can charge. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) hope their newly revised legislation will hold manufacturers accountable by forcing them to be transparent about increases exceeding 10 percent a year or 25 percent in three years. Soledad O’Brien meets with Baldwin to discuss their bipartisan efforts, the next steps for keeping drug prices under control and how the White House is affecting Congress’ ability to move forward.
