HOW A SHOCKING MEDICAL STUDY ON PULSE OXIMETERS LED TO A VIRAL TIK TOK

In 2020, medical student Joel Bervell came across a study that showed how pulse oximeters readings are disproportionately inaccurate when used on darker skin tones. That led him to create a TikTok video about it – that went viral – and launch a series highlighting racial disparities and biases in medicine.
