Ronnie Cho, 34 years old, was inspired to run by his former boss – President Barack Obama. Now, he is running to become the first Korean American to hold a seat on New York’s City Council. The former millennial outreach director for Obama, he says he’s not counting his generation out, even with their record of low voter turnout. In the 2016, only 46 percent of millennials voted, the lowest turnout for all generations. He joins Soledad O’Brien for a conversation about the energy among millennials, his switch from national to local politics and why he believes government “should be a force of good.”
