In 2017, nearly 8 million people around the world submitted DNA samples through genetic ancestry companies, such as 23andMe, to learn more about their heritage. Since 2012, over 12 million people have had their DNA analyzed and most were from the United States. Some of these genealogical history hunts can lead to surprising discoveries.
