The Equal Rights Amendment guarantees legal rights to all Americans regardless of sex and seeks to break down all legal barriers between men and women. Congress passed the amendment in 1972, but the states still haven’t ratified it. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) and Tom Reed (R-NY) are introducing new legislation to get the ERA passed nearly 50 years later.
